A Vancouver Schubertiade – VISI 5th Anniversary Gala Concert & Party

Sat Jun 18 2011 7:30pm
Telus Studio Theatre

Presented by the Vancouver International Song Institute

Schubert: the young Bohemian who really did live in garrets while sparking the Art Song Revolution.

Schubertiade: a party by his friends who recognized his genius. Many immortal works were premiered in their living rooms during nights of wine, laughter, and wild musical Revelation.

Gemütlichkeit (Don’t even try to pronounce it…): A comfortable, cosy ambiance.

“The glory of friendship is not (just) the outstretched hand… nor the joy of companionship;
it is the inspiration that comes to one who discovers that someone else believes in him.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Without his friends, would Schubert have had the heart to keep pouring his soul into song? Would we even have known about the vast trove of beloved music he left for us when he died at 31?

Join the Vancouver International Song Institute for a fabulous birthday party celebrating artistic community and Emerson’s salute to friendship! Start with a glass of wine, relax and enjoy three gorgeous sets of music framed by more wine, appies, and conversation. Amazing performances of Schubert and Brahms Vocal Quartets, a beautiful new cycle by Lloyd Burritt, songs by great Vancouver composers, insane musical antics, possibly some ghosts… that’s all we’re saying… you’ll have to find out the rest for yourselves…

With the VISI faculty of singers, pianists and other special guests.
