Chan Shun Concert Hall

Presented by VancouverVoices in partnership with the Chan Centre

The St. Matthew Passion is J.S. Bach’s most profound and moving work, dramatic, passionate, and lyrical. This performance, just before Easter weekend, 2011, will feature VancouverVoices and the Victoria Philharmonic Choir. International soloists will include Stephen Varcoe (Christus), Benjamin Butterfield (Evangelist), Sarah Fryer (mezzo arias), Jennifer Farrell (soprano arias), Mark De Silva (tenor arias) and Gary Relyea (bass arias).

VancouverVoices is a semi-professional chamber choir now in its sixth consecutive season. Directed by Peter Butterfield, the choir has performed a series of major choral/orchestral works, including Monteverdi’s Vespers (2006), JS Bach’s St. John Passion (2008), Mass in Bminor (2009), and last year in Victoria, with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and the Victoria Philharmonic Choir, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. The performance of the the St. Matthew Passion in Vancouver is part of our cycle of major Bach choral/orchestral works.
