Presented by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and the Canadian Romani Alliance

Art has long been a powerful vehicle of expression used to challenge and resist negative stereotypes. Join us for an evening of exploring how communities have utilized multiple art forms to directly or indirectly resist systemic discrimination and oppression.

Canadian Romani Alliance co-founder, Gina Csanyi-Robah will share examples of art as resistance from both the Spanish and Canadian Roma communities, including the flamenco roots of Diego El Cigala‘s music and Chad Evan Wyatt’s romarising photo exhibit.

A dynamic panel discussion with special guests will include visual artist Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun, visual artist Dafne Blanco, UBC Assistant Professor Alessandra Santos, and filmmaker Julia Lovell Mohammed.

Free to attend, space is limited.
