Presented by the Chan Centre in partnership with The Cinematheque

Director: Marcelo Machado. Running time: 87 minutes.

Having grown up listening to the ground-breaking sounds of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, the Mutantes and Tom Zé, director Marcelo Machado takes his audience on a tour through the sounds, images, and history of Tropicália – one of Brazil’s most iconic cultural movements. This documentary film is an affectionate panorama of the fertile, controversial, and violent years of the late 1960s, featuring incredible archival material, images, interviews, and, of course, music.

“An intoxicating blend of biography, performance and cultural history.” (Telluride Film Festival)
