Chan Centre Presents

Zakir Hussain’s Celtic Connections

Sat Mar 21 2015 8pm
Chan Shun Concert Hall

Tabla master and Chan Centre favourite Zakir Hussain is widely celebrated for his genuinely creative East/West musical dialogues with the likes of Mickey Hart, Béla Fleck, John McLaughlin and Charles Lloyd. The virtuoso percussionist developed his Celtic Connections: The Pulse of the World project to open Glasgow’s annual Celtic music festival.

The beautiful and flowing melodies of Celtic instruments including bodhrán, violin, pipes, flutes and whistles combined with tabla, bamboo flute and Carnatic (South Indian) violin prove a powerful and organic musical experience.

This all-star ensemble includes fiddle player Charlie McKerron of Scotland’s Capercaillie fame, bodhrán player John Joe Kelly, bansuri (Indian bamboo flute) player Rakesh Chaurasia, piper Fraser Fifield, guitarist Tony Byrne, fiddle player Patsy Reid, violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, and flautist Jean-Michel Veillon.
