From Australia comes a bold new vision of contemporary circus: a place where breathtakingly beautiful acrobatics and fiercely virtuosic music-making meld into a seamless whole; a celebration of the expressive possibilities of the human body at its extremes. Since 2004, Circa has toured in 39 countries across six continents. In Opus, 14 acrobats and the esteemed Debussy String Quartet celebrate the music of 20th century Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.

Circa’s Opus moves rapidly through alternating scenes of stillness and lively outbursts to arrive at exquisitely choreographed acts of acrobats flying, balancing, and landing. By turns both tragic and comic, Opus is a monument of music and choreography that explores the complex and poetic relationship between sound and movement. This groundbreaking work of intense power was saluted by The Guardian as “so remarkable as to defy description.”

Circus on the Chan Centre stage? You can’t miss it!

There will be a free post-show artist talk with members of Circa and the Debussy String Quartet at 9:30pm, following the performance. The post-show talk will take place in the Chan Shun Concert Hall, and seating will be general admission. MORE INFO
