In the event that a Camper must be withdrawn from camp:
-
- Withdrawals made 10 days or more prior to the start of the camp = Full refund, minus a $25 cancellation fee.
- Withdrawals made 9 days or less prior to the start date of the camp = No refund will be provided.
The UBC Chan Centre reserves the right to cancel programs due to low registration or other unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, participants will receive a full refund.
The Chan Centre strives to make camps as accessible and inclusive as possible. We are happy to have children with exceptionalities join us!
- All camp activities can be modified to accommodate campers who need extra support or an extra challenge.
- When registering, you will have the option to disclose an exceptionality via the Support Needs form. This allows us to gain more information about your Camper and their needs at camp. While The Chan Centre can make reasonable accommodations for exceptional Campers, we are not able to provide consistent 1-1 support at this time.
- Campers requiring 1-1 support are welcome to attend with an external support worker, provided at the family’s own expense.
Camp curriculums are tailored to specific age ranges to ensure an engaging and developmentally appropriate experience. We ask that campers register only for camps that match their age as of December 31, 2026. For example, if your child is currently 5 and turning 6 on or before December 31, 2026, they can register in camps listed for ages 6-8.
Our camps are best suited to children who have completed kindergarten. All campers must have completed kindergarten at the start of the camp.
Exceptions may be made in extenuating circumstances for campers who are within a couple months of the age minimum / maximum. Please contact our office at chancentre.community@ubc.ca prior to registering in a camp outside of your child’s age range.
Returning campers are always welcome! This year’s repeat camps, Press Start and Cue the Music, have similar themes and concepts to last year’s camps, with some new activities.
Returning campers for Press Start will enjoy all-new morning activities and afternoon coding projects. Coding activities are beginner-friendly, but can be extended with additional challenges for more advanced campers. For returning campers who are looking for a deeper dive into STEM concepts, we recommend Harmony Hackers: The Science of Music.
Cue the Music Jr. is equivalent to Cue the Music from 2025. Returning campers can expect the same morning activities as last year, but look forward to learning new LEGO stop-motion techniques. For returning campers who are ready for a level up on stop-motion concepts and all-new morning activities, we recommend Cue the Music (Ages 8-12). Please connect with us at chancentre.community@ubc.ca prior to registering if your child is slightly outside of the age range.
All materials, equipment, and technology will be provided; however, campers in Cue the Music (Ages 8-12) or Melody Makers who already own a ukulele are welcome to bring their own! Please note that campers will still be expected to follow all camp rules around instruments, even if using their personal ukulele.
We kindly ask that campers refrain from bringing tablets or laptops to camp, since they will be working in groups for all technology activities. Campers who bring personal devices will be asked to keep them in their backpacks during camp hours.
While most camps have some overlap in musical concepts introduced in the morning, all games, activities, and projects are different between camps. Please note that Melody Makers and Carnival of the Animals half-day camps have NO overlap in content, making them an ideal pairing for families looking to create a full-day camp experience.
Melody Makers and Carnival of the Animals can be combined into a full-day of fun by adding lunch hour care. At checkout, select lunch hour care as an add-on to Melody Makers. Please note that the lunch hour care add-on does not automatically register your child in Carnival of the Animals – you will need to purchase both camps. Only one registration form needs to be filled out for both camps.
