Initializing… Loading… Ready player one! In this camp, campers will explore the fundamentals of music and digital video game music composition using Soundtrap. In the afternoons, our music studio will become a game studio as campers work in pairs to explore the ins and outs of videogame design, learn coding, and create playable games using Scratch. At the end of the week, campers will showcase their original video games featuring their own music to their friends and family!
Note to parents/guardians:
No prior experience in music, Soundtrap, or coding required. Campers must have basic computer (keyboard and mouse) skills.
Returning campers are welcome – we’ll have all-new morning activities and coding projects! For campers who loved coding in last year’s Press Start and are ready for a level up on STEM concepts, we recommend Harmony Hackers: The Science of Music.
What can you expect from this camp?
A typical camp week will introduce campers to new concepts in music and coding through fun games and mini projects. In the mornings, we’ll focus on basic music theory, learn to play percussion instruments, and explore digital music composition with Soundtrap. In the afternoons, we’ll work in pairs to code 4 different games using Scratch.
Parents/guardians, siblings, and friends are invited to the Friday afternoon showcase, where campers share their projects and demonstrate what they’ve learned!
Technology projects such as digital music compositions and Scratch games will be emailed to parents/guardians within 3 days after the last day of camp. Check out some of last year’s Scratch games here!
