Summer Camp Volunteer Opportunity

Are you passionate about music and love working with children? Here’s an exciting opportunity for you to be a part of our Summer Camp team at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts this July!

We’re seeking enthusiastic and fun volunteers to help us facilitate our two exciting Summer camps. If you enjoy music, digital media, working with children aged 6 to 12, and are looking for opportunities to gain teaching and leadership skills, we want you on our team!


Duties and Responsibilities:

As a volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our instructors in delivering our full-day camps during July. Under the guidance of our instructors, volunteers will:

  • Assist the instructor with set-up, facilitation, and clean up for activities.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming camp environment to all camp participants.
  • Be a role model by demonstrating positive, enthusiastic, and respectful attitudes and behaviour.
  • Collaborate with other volunteers and Camp Leaders to lead games and activities.
  • Assist with additional duties as directed by the Camp Leaders and Community Programming Team


Dates and Hours:

We need two volunteers in each camp.

  • July 7 – 11: Press Start: Video Game Music & Game Development (Ages 8-12)
  • July 14 – 18: Cue the Music: Film Music & Stop-Motion Animation (Ages 6-9)
  • July 21 – 25: Press Start: Video Game Music & Game Development (Ages 8-12)
  • July 28 – Aug. 1: Cue the Music: Film Music & Stop-Motion Animation (Ages 6-9)
  • Hours: 8:45am – 4pm, Monday – Friday


Qualifications:

  • Minimum age requirement: 15 years old
  • Availability for at least 1 full week of camp (2 weeks preferred)
  • Attend volunteer training (2 hours during the week of June 23, 2025)
  • Desire to work in a positive environment with children aged 6-12
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn
  • Interest and background in music (all levels welcome)
  • Prior knowledge of Garageband is highly desired and beneficial, but a willingness to learn is equally appreciated.
  • For “Press Start,” prior knowledge of computer programming, game design, and/or Scratch programming highly desired and beneficial, but a willingness to learn is equally appreciated.
  • For “Cue the Music,” an interest in stop-motion animation and/or film-making is highly desired. Experience with stop-motion animation is an asset, but not required.
  • All successful applicants must complete a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

  • Application Deadline: Thursday, May 1, 2025
  • Volunteer Interviews: Dates will be provided upon successful application
  • Volunteer Training: 2 hours during the week of June 23, 2025
  • Camps in Session: July 7 – Aug 1, 2025
