Calling All Young Emerging Visual and Digital Artists Between Ages 15 and 22!

Are you a talented visual or digital artist ready to share your creativity? The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts  invites you to participate in an exciting collaboration at our upcoming concert featuring the acclaimed Vancouver pianist Ian Parker. Join us for “GET CLASSICAL! With Ian Parker” on Sunday, March 9, 2025. This is your chance to shine and share your work in front of an audience of 1,000 as part of our Inspired at the Chan family series!

 

Why Participate:

  • Showcase Your Talent: Present your work to a live audience of 1,000 people. Your art will be projected on a screen during a live music performance at the Chan Centre.
  • Collaborate and Create: Collaborate with the Chan Centre team to bring your vision to life.
  • Enhance the Concert Experience: Your visual creations will offer a unique perspective on the music, providing an exciting, immersive experience for the audience.
  • An honourarium will be provided for selections that are featured in the concert.

 

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for dynamic visual content to complement the music. You can create any of the following:

  • Animations: Bring the music to life with engaging animations that respond to its themes and emotions.
  • Film: Produce a captivating video that captures the mood of the music through images and storytelling.
  • Sequential Images: Craft a slideshow of your images that evolves with the music, highlighting different sections and moments.
  • Photography: Showcase a series of photographs that reflect the essence of your chosen piece.

 

How to Participate:

  1. Explore the Concert Program: Check out the Concert Program with links to recordings and descriptions of each piece. Select one (or more!) that inspires you. Feel free to team up with friends for a collaborative project, interpreting how the selected music makes you feel—there’s no right or wrong!
  2. Submit Your Interest: If you are interested in this opportunity, fill out the APPLICATION FORM, sharing your experience, examples of past work, the music piece(s) you’d like to work on, and your creative ideas. We are not asking for completed artwork for this project at this stage—just your ideas and examples of your past work
  3. Review of Applications: After submitting your form, we’ll review your ideas. Those who are selected will be notified by December 12, 2024 to discuss next steps and confirm the music pieces.
  4. Create Your Artwork: Develop your visual interpretation that fits the music’s duration. We’ll work with you to ensure your piece fits seamlessly into the performance. We’re here to support you!
  5. Format Details for the Final Work: For best results, please use the following guidelines for your submission:
    • Resolution: Use 1920 x 1080
    • Frame Rate: 23.9 fps or 29.9 fps
    • File Formats: high quality H.264 MP4 (20 MBPS or higher)
  6. Important Dates:
    •  Express Your Interest by: December 6, 2024
    • Notification of Selection: December 12, 2024
    • Preliminary Artwork Due: January 25, 2025
    • Final Artwork Due: February 15, 2025
