Trombones are cool again, thanks to Trombone Shorty, aka Troy Andrews. The young New Orleans native brings open ears and the spirit of his hometown to genres as diverse as rap, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and country. He has played with artists like Lenny Kravitz, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Zac Brown, and southern rapper Mannie Fresh, as well as New Orleans legends Dr. John and The Meters. But it’s with his own band, Orleans Avenue, that this brass virtuoso really cuts loose.

The musical gumbo he cooks up nightly reflects the diversity and inclusivity of the Big Easy, where musicians still meet each evening to jam across musical borders. “We want to bring that joy to people, and bring joy to ourselves seeing people dancing and having fun,” he says. His infectious delight in music–all music–will get you up and out of your seat.

There will be a pre-show talk with Kia Kadiri at 6:15pm in the Chan Centre’s Royal Bank Cinema.
