Where can I find the show program?

- Not every performance includes a program. When available, digital programs will be linked on the event’s page on our website. We do not offer printed programs in an effort to reduce paper waste.
Can I bring children to the theatre?

- All guests, regardless of age, require their own ticket and seat. Children under 13 must be accompanied by another patron of at least 16 years of age seated beside them. Parents and guardians are responsible for determining whether a performance is appropriate for the children in their party, regardless of our suggested age recommendations. A limited number of booster seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What time does the lobby open vs the house?

- The lobby typically opens one hour before showtime, and the theatre doors open 30 minutes before the performance begins. Please refer to your reminder email for confirmed opening times prior to your event. The time stated on your ticket and on the event page is when the show begins, not when doors open.
What happens if I arrive after the performance has started?

- Guests arriving after the scheduled start time may be asked to wait before entering the theatre. Late seating will be accommodated at an appropriate break in the performance, at the discretion of the Front of House team, to minimize disruption to performers and audience members.
Do you offer happy hour?

- Yes, we offer Happy Hour beginning when the lobby opens and continuing for the first 30 minutes. During this time, guests can enjoy discounted drinks and food items.
Do restaurants near the Chan Centre offer discounts?

- Ticket holders receive 10% off, and all Chan Centre Members receive 20% off, at Wildlight Kitchen + Bar when they present their event ticket to the wait staff. Located in leləm̓ Village on University Boulevard in the University Endowment Lands, it’s a great space to enjoy a meal before or after the show.
- This offer is valid for dine-in only, alcoholic drinks excluded. It is not valid when combined with other offers or discounts, including happy hour.
Do you have a lost and found?
- Yes. If you’ve lost an item, please contact our box office by phone or email and a team member will check our lost and found for you. Please note that unclaimed items are cleared every six months.
Did I miss a call from the Chan Centre?
- We may contact you periodically regarding your membership benefits or updates to upcoming performances. To update your contact restrictions, please contact our box office.
Do you have accessible seating?
- Yes, the main level of the Chan Shun Concert Hall has a variety of accessible seating. Please see our Accessibility page or call our box office for more details.
Do you have accessible parking?
- Yes. For guests requiring accessible mobility support from the parking lot to the theatre, please visit our Directions & Parking page for more information.
Are all of your seats the same size?
- Seat sizes in the concert hall range from approximately 16.5 inches to 19.25 inches. You can view a map of seat sizes here. If you require a chair that is larger than this, box seating on the dress and upper levels contain movable chairs with arms which can be replaced with chairs that have no arms.
Do you offer hearing assistance devices?
- Infrared Hearing System headsets are available free of charge for those who are hard of hearing, and live captioning is available for select events. For further details or to make these arrangements, please contact our box office at chan.tickets@ubc.ca or phone us at 604-822-2697.
Do you accept Access 2 cards?
- Yes, we do. If you have a pass, please contact our box office to book your tickets. Tickets will be held for pick-up at the box office on the day of the performance and a valid Access2 pass must be presented at that time. Please be aware that inventory is limited and tickets are booked on a first come, first served basis.
Are service animals permitted?
- Trained guide dogs or service animals assisting guests with disabilities are permitted inside the Chan Centre. All other animals are prohibited.
Do you offer barrier-free tickets?
- Yes, we offer ticket options to those who face barriers in attending our performances. If you are an individual or a community/social group and would like to request discounted or complimentary tickets, please contact chancentre.marketing@ubc.ca. Please note, this is only applicable to events programmed by the Chan Centre and does not apply to events presented by organizations outside of the Chan Centre.
How do I buy tickets?
- You can buy tickets directly through our website, by calling the box office at 604-822-2697.Box office hours are Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Does my ticket include taxes and fees?
- Yes, taxes and fees are included in the total ticket price—there are no hidden fees.
Can I purchase tickets from other websites/ticket sellers online?
- We strongly recommend purchasing tickets directly through us. Many third-party ticket listings online are fraudulent. Tickets purchased through unofficial sales channels may be denied entry if proven to be fraudulent.
Can I get my tickets by email?
- Yes, you can select to receive your tickets by email when purchasing, or you can choose to pick them up at the box office at your event.
How do I use downloadable pdf tickets?
- You must download your tickets and either print them or present the PDF on your smartphone at the venue. Please be sure to show the downloaded tickets, not the confirmation email.
Where do I pick up physical tickets?
- Tickets can be picked up at our box office. We recommend picking them up at least 30 minutes prior to showtime to avoid any delays in attending your event.
Can I get my tickets by mail?
- No, the Chan Centre does not mail physical tickets.
Do you offer group discounts?
- Group ticket rates may be offered to parties of 10 or more. Please contact Paul Sontz (paul.sontz@ubc.ca) to inquire about a group rate.
Do you offer discounted tickets for the Indigenous community?
- All self-identifying Indigenous peoples can sign up for Plus Membership which includes a 20% discount on Chan Centre season tickets. The Chan Centre season also includes “Value Tickets” which are priced at a discount. “Value Tickets” are limited and are first come, first served.
Do you offer discounted tickets for students?
- “Value Tickets” are available to students for events within the Chan Centre’s season. “Value Tickets” are limited and are first come, first served.
Do you offer gift certificates?
- We do not offer gift certificates at this time.
Can I get a refund or exchange my tickets if I can no longer attend an event?
- A refund is only offered if your event is cancelled or rescheduled. Otherwise, you may exchange your tickets for $5 per ticket by getting in touch with our box office. All Chan Centre members may exchange their tickets for free. We do not provide exchanges for non-Chan Centre events (other presenters or rentals).
What if my event is rescheduled?
- If your event is rescheduled, your tickets with the original date will still be valid. Ticket holders will be notified of the change in date and will be given an opportunity to request a full refund if the new date does not work with their schedule within a limited timeframe.
What if my event is cancelled?
- If your event is cancelled, ticket holders will be notified of the cancelled date and automatically receive a full refund back to their original payment method. What if the weather prevents me from attending my show?
- If inclement weather causes a cancellation of the show, then a refund will be offered.
What if I lose my tickets?
- Please get in touch with the box office who can re-issue your tickets.
Can my friend change my booking for me?
- Only the person who made the transaction is able to make any alterations to their booking.
Can I give away my tickets?
- Yes, you may forward your emailed tickets. If your tickets are at will call, please get in touch with the box office to let them know who will be claiming your tickets.
Can I sell my ticket online?
- To prevent the circulation of fraudulent tickets, we do not recommend selling tickets on any third-party ticket seller. The Chan Centre is unable to verify the legitimacy of any tickets purchased through unofficial sales channels.
