Job Description
The Chan Centre for the Performing is seeking enthusiastic and creative Summer Program Leaders to deliver the “Press Start: Video Game Music & Game Development” and “Cue the Music: Film Music & Stop-Motion Animation” camps. Leaders will be provided with pre-developed lesson plans, teaching materials, and daily schedules to implement.
Responsibilities
The Summer Program Leader will be responsible for:
- • Delivering the lesson plans and leading activities in collaboration with a co-leader and volunteers
- • Ensuring all policies and procedures are followed
- • Supervising groups of up to 18 children aged 6-9 and 8-12
- • Managing camp supplies and equipment
- • Performing set-up and clean-up duties
- • Completing other tasks well as other duties as required to ensure the camps run smoothly.
Availability & Commitment
Leaders must be available June 23 – August 1, 2024, including:
- • 4-hour in-person mandatory camp training & team building in the week of June 23 (exact date/time TBD)
- • Up to 6 hours of program-specific preparation/training prior to July 7 (exact date/time TBD)
- • Camp Schedule:
- ▪ Week 1: July 7 – 11, 8:15-4:15 pm (Press Start, ages 8-12)
- ▪ Week 2: July 14 – 18, 8:15-4:15 pm (Cue the Music, ages 6-9)
- ▪ Week 3: July 21 – 25, 8:15-4:15pm (Press Start, ages 8-12)
- ▪ Week 4: July 28 – August 1, 8:15-4:15pm (Cue the Music, ages 6-9)
Full-time Hours: 35-40 hours per week during 4 weeks of camp
Hourly Rate: $22-27 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and past experience.
Qualifications
- • Background in music, music education, and/or arts education
- • Ongoing personal and/or professional practice in performing arts, film, or computer programming
- • Genuine love for and interest in music, video games, and/or animation
- • Prior teaching or coaching experience with children in group settings
- • Experience in at least 4 of the following areas: o Familiarity with GarageBand
- o Music composition experience (composition for video games and/or film/TV an asset)
- o Experience with stop-motion animation
- o Experience with computer programming
- o Experience with Scratch or similar icon-based coding programs/apps
- o Experience with Stop Motion Studio or similar stop-motion animation programs/apps

Prerequisites – Must be obtained prior to commencing work
- • Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
- • Current Standard First Aid Certification with CPR-C + AED
