Colloquium on Arab Music and Performance

Part of the UBC School of Music 2012-13 Graduate Colloquium Series.

Join us for an overview of Arab music and performance, including lecture and demonstration on the oud by world-renowned oudist and Professor of Strings at Berklee College of Music, Simon Shaheen.

Mr. Shaheen will discuss and demonstrate the fundamentals and components that make up Arab music, including the microtonal modal system, rhythmic modal system, and ornamentation. His talk will also cover forms of Arab music and its traditional instruments with demonstrations on the oud and violin.
