Eliades Ochoa is one of the most celebrated Cuban “soneros” of all time and one of the original members of the Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club. Growing up in the Cuban countryside, his parents taught him to play the tres, a type of guitar native to the island, and a vast repertoire of Cuban music. “A remarkable guitarist” (The Guardian), he celebrates the tradition of folk songs of peasants and farmers, and is often likened to Johnny Cash for his country wisdom, all-black dress, and iconic cowboy hat.

In 1997 he gained international recognition as part of Buena Vista Social Club with legendary veterans Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer. Together, they recorded classic songs such as “Chan Chan” and “Candela” – earning them a Grammy win for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.

In his latest album Guajiro, Ochoa channels his past. Here, he crafts his own compositions, diving into genres beyond Cuban son and collaborates with masters drawn from blues and indie-rock like Charlie Musselwhite and Joan Wasser. His songs ponder the beauty of nature and the humble traditions of the countryside, while ambitiously weaving threads of his life into a compelling personal testament.

For this concert, Eliades will be joined by a quartet of musicians to perform a mix of classics in addition to his new work. Get ready to be transported to the shores of Cuba in this joyous evening full of Latin rhythms and vibrant tunes.
