Parāśakti: The Flame Within is brand new production filmed on the Chan Centre stage that explores the Goddess Parāśakti’s many narratives and iconographies through sublime classical Indian music and dance. This talk, moderated by Indian Summer Festival’s Sirish Rao, features the artists involved in the creation and performance: Akhil Jobanputra (vocals), Arno Kamolika (dance), Srividhya Sairam (vocals), Sharanjeet Singh Mand (sitar), Satpreet Singh (dilruba), and Curtis Andrews (mridangam).
“What was happening during rehearsals where the dance and the music were co-emerging – we didn’t have anything in mind and we all came with an open mind.” –Srividhya Sairam
“Dance is an act of happening, right? So always when I’m participating as an accompanist to dance, when you play the sitar, when you do music, it’s like vibration at a quantum level. And to see it happening at a real level, that same vibration, always allows you to learn more about your music.” –Sharanjeet Singh Mand
