Missy D and Tonye Aganaba
Missy D and Tonye Aganaba are two bold, boundary-pushing artists who are elevating Vancouver’s music scene. Missy D, a bilingual “femcee” with roots in Rwanda, Côte d’Ivoire, and Zimbabwe, fuses hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and rock into her genre of “Rap & Soul.” Influenced by icons like Missy Elliott and Lauryn Hill, her electrifying stage presence has earned her spots at major festivals such as SXSW and Rifflandia. Awarded “Francophone Artist of the Year” by the Western Canadian Music Awards this past year, Missy D continues to prove that she is a dynamic force to be reckoned with.
Tonye Aganaba is a queer, disabled, non-binary musician and community organizer whose ancestry can be traced to Zimbabwe and Nigeria. They weave together soul, funk, hip-hop, and R&B, inviting listeners in with their vulnerability and connection to create intimate and transformative experiences. Beyond their art, Tonye is deeply committed to social justice and decolonization, actively working with local collectives to create safer spaces for all.
