Join us for an intimate conversation with the acclaimed Chilean-American electronic producer and composer Nicolás Jaar, in dialogue with Jarrett Martineau, Curator-in-Residence of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. This event is presented ahead of the world premiere concert of Intiha, his collaboration with Ali Sethi. Details for the concert, which will be held on November 22, can be found here.
Nicolás Jaar is a renowned musician, collaborator, and relentless innovator. Known for his “mesmerizing sounds” and “his ability to craft intricate auditory landscapes that feel both intimate and expansive,” Jaar’s solo works include notable albums Space Is Only Noise (2011), Sirens (2016), Telas and Cenizas (2020). His most recent sound making explores diverse and experimental terrain, including long-form improvisations, collaborations (including Intiha with Pakistani-American singer and composer Ali Sethi), and the 2024 albums Piedras 1 and 2—comprised of music from a five-hour radio play, that was recently named Best New Music by Pitchfork for its weaving of “stories of Chilean colonial history, military dictatorship, and Palestinian erasure into a dizzying mixture of abstract sonics and avant pop.” Alongside musician Dave Harrington, Nicolás is also one half of the New York City-based experimental electronic duo Darkside, who recently announced their first North American tour in more than a decade.
This FREE, moderated chat will explore Nicolás’ music, creative process, and approaches to collaboration across sound forms and geographies. Admission is free, tickets are required. All are welcome!
