The best known ‘Canadian folk song’ is undoubtedly “This Land Is Your Land”, yet it was written by Woody Guthrie, an American. The impact of Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Malvina Reynolds and a dozen other members of People’s Songs, founded in 1946, was fundamental to the development of the folk music scene in Canada; Gary will tell you how and why.
