Now Streaming

Available to view online from June 26 - July 17

Presented by the Indian Summer Festival in partnership with Odlum Brown

In association with SF JAZZ Center and the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts

An intimate evening with the tabla maestro.

Zakir Hussain is the world’s most acclaimed tabla player and a lifelong musical and cultural bridge-builder whose collaborators have ranged from Ravi Shankar to Jerry Garcia, Yo-Yo Ma to John McLaughlin.

In this special arrangement with San Francisco’s SFJAZZ, Indian Summer presents the online Canadian Premiere of Zakir Hussain’s concert ‘Alone Together’ recorded at their beautiful SFJAZZ Center. Here, Zakir Hussain, who usually plays to sold-out venues, occupies an empty concert hall and returns to the most primary and profound musical relationship – himself and the instrument that has been his life.

Hussain performs solo, and is joined virtually by special guests collaborating in real time from different parts of the world – Grateful Dead legend Mickey Hart and bansuri virtuoso Rakesh Chaurasia. The event begins with a special interview with the maestro, exclusive to ISF2021 and virtually hosted at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

The June 26 7pm premiere will have a live chat function that keep you connected with other audience members, share your thoughts, and allow you to send heart emojis to the artists. Following the premiere, the on-demand version will be available to stream until July 17, 2021.

ARTIST LINEUP: Zakir Hussain, Mickey Hart, Rakesh Chaurasia

“The great beauty of Zakir, really the bottom line, is in bringing the peoples of the world together. He doesn’t just talk the talk; he walks the walk.”
