Venues, Rates & Fees

From concerts to lectures, to conferences and film shoots, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts offers a wide variety of rental opportunities with technical, ticketing and front of house support.

The Chan Centre’s venues are available for rent throughout the year. Rental rates for Chan Centre venues are based on pre-defined license periods and include a variety of services as well as a complement of front-of-house and technical staff. SOCAN

SOCAN fees are government regulated and are subject to change without notice. The Chan Centre reports all musical performances, and/or concerts using live or recorded music to SOCAN. Licencees are responsible for all SOCAN fees. The Chan Centre also reports all events (i.e. graduations, assemblies, lectures, weddings, etc.) where live or recorded music is used as an accessory to the event. A flat fee plus GST is charged and remitted to SOCAN on behalf of the licensee. www.socan.ca.

Re:Sound

Re:Sound administers the rights of performers and record labels for the public use of sound recordings. For events such as graduations, lectures, weddings, etc. where recorded music is used, the Chan Centre will charge you a flat fee plus GST. We send the fee to Re:Sound for you. www.resound.ca

Additional Equipment

If additional equipment or supplies are required, licensee may, in consultation with a Co-Managing Director (or designate), arrange to have this equipment or supplies provided through an appropriate rental agency. If licensee chooses to have the Chan Centre arrange for the rental or purchase of additional equipment and/or supplies on their behalf, there will be a 15% administration fee added to the charges.

Recordings and Broadcast

A fee of $500 for audio recordings and $1250 for video recordings or $1500 for both applies for all commercial recordings of events.

No recording fee applies to archival recordings, however extra technical costs may apply. Audio recordings are considered archival when a mono CD is recorded off the Chan Centre’s sound board by a Chan Centre technician. Video recordings are considered archival when only one fixed camera is used. Any recording made using additional equipment or any other type of equipment is considered commercial and fees will apply.
