Presented by Arabesque Dance Co. & Orchestra
The swirling, undulating passion of Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra celebrates two great mothers; the Mother of Arab Music Oum Kalthoum and the Mother of the Universe, ancient Inanna of Babylon. Arabesque choreographer and company founder Yasmina Ramzy has created a tribute to the timeless music of Oum Kalthoum, set to a glorious montage of the Egyptian Singer’s most memorable musical moments arranged by musical director Bassam Bishara.
The production also includes a boisterous scene in an Egyptian cafe, a masculine martial arts dance, the very feminine Bellydance and a remount of the popular zaar from their 2009 production of Egypt.
The only performing arts company of its kind in the world, Arabesque features live acoustic Arabic music and vocals accompanying 18 dancers expressing Bellydance, Whirling Dervish and the ritual arts of the Middle East.
