EVENING Concert: Come Toward the Fire
Presented in collaboration with Musqueam
A festival-style concert with ten musical acts and two dance groups from across the continent. Hosted by Musqueam creator, actor, and playwright Quelemia Sparrow. This concert will be recorded and broadcast on September 30 for Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
Featuring performances by:
- Afro-Indigenous singer/songwriter Julian Taylor
- Inuit throat-singing sister duo PIQSIQ
- Acclaimed multi-national powwow dance troupe Indigenous Enterprise(Vancouver debut)
- Musqueam hip-hop artist Miss Christie Lee and Squamish hip-hop artist Lady Sinncere
- Haida songstress Carsen Gray
- Lil’wat musician and composer Russell Wallace‘s Tillicum Shantie Project
- Afro-Indigenous, Two-Spirit DJ O Show from the Squamish Nation
- Spoken word and hip-hop artists Sekawnee and Sekoya Baker from the Squamish Nation
- Multi-generational Coast Salish dance ensemble Tsatsu Stalqayu(Coastal Wolf Pack)
- Plus, the premiere of a new musical composition co-created by master Musqueam weaver Debra Sparrow in partnership with Vancouver musician Ruby Singh, and an ensemble of Vancouver-based musicians
Admission is FREE for Indigenous peoples but tickets are still required.
