Presented by the Chan Centre in partnership with The Cinémathèque

Mexico 2005
Director: Beto Gómez
Colour, 35mm, in Spanish with English subtitles. 90 mins.

Director Beto Gómez has crafted a visual and musical valentine to several of Mexico’s most celebrated female singers, including Chavela Vargas, Lila Downs, Eugenia León, Astrid Hadad, La Negra Graciana, and Iraida Noriega. They are interviewed on topics ranging from their music to their thoughts on politics, love, relationships and equality, intermingled with oftentimes powerful concert footage.

There are common political threads that all unite these women, whose music has sometimes served as a platform to protest corruption and machismo. Hasta el último trago… corazón! is a crash course on what’s vital (not commercial) in Mexican music” (Adapted from plume-noire.com).
