Le Nouvel Opéra presents “Visibilia”, a project which unites sacred and secular music by Monteverdi and invites the audience to navigate between the visible and invisible.
The performance begins with excerpts from his Selva Morale e Spirituale – for one, two and three voices accompanied by an instrumental ensemble. The texts are a mixture of psalms and non-liturgical texts; Ego Dormio is taken from the Song of Songs.
The second half of the programme opens with the dramatic scene Lamento della Ninfa, disturbing the serenity reached in the first part. As Monteverdi wrote himself in his directions, nothing prepares the listener for the surprise that awaits when the drama of Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda begins.
