Opera’s fine, but for really transcendental singing it’s always worth checking out the Persian virtuosos who occasionally pass through town. Parvaz Homay is one of the best. Homay writes most of his own lyrics, many with a decidedly philosophical and peace-oriented bent; imagine a cross between Rolando Villazón and the late John Lennon. –Georgia Straight 2011

Parvaz Homay is a rising young star in the world of traditional Persian music. He and his 8-person ensemble, inspired by the Sufi poets Rumi and Hafez, aim to re-establish the old Persian practice of creating music that can make the listener reach a higher level of consciousness. “The rapturous reception given Homay and the Mastan Group was well-deserved, not just for their dazzling innovations on old musical forms, but for their inspiring audacity .” – LA Times, 2008
