Join us for a conversation with acclaimed vocalist Marcus Mosely in advance of the 8pm performance of We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. featuring Damien Sneed. Mosely is a member of the award-winning roots gospel trio The Sojourners, and the founder and artistic director of the Marcus Mosely Chorale. Originally from Texas, Marcus moved to Vancouver in 1985 and in 2016 was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame. He has performed extensively around the world, and has also starred in stage productions, movies and television.

Moderating the discussion will be Dr. Handel Wright, Director of the Centre for Culture, Identity & Education at UBC. Dr. Wright’s research focuses on issues of identity, representation and social justice and ranges across Africana cultural studies; multiculturalism, anti-racism, and decolonial thought; international and comparative education; qualitative research and ethnography and cultural studies of education. He is co-editor of the book series African and Diasporic Cultural Studies (University of Toronto Press) and Associate Editor of the journal Critical Arts. Dr. Wright’s community work includes service on the Mayor of Vancouver’s Advisory Committee on Black History Month and the City of Vancouver’s Equity Advisory Committee.
