Sounds of China
Presented by the China Arts and Entertainment Group and the Canada-China Cultural Development Association
Sounds of China, featuring the National Chinese Traditional Orchestra directed by preeminent music composer and producer Mr. Ma Jiuyue, is a program of traditional Chinese folk music that combines Chinese and Western instruments.
This presentation marks the opening ceremony of the historic 2015-16 China-Canada Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges. It is hosted by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada, and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver.
The critically-acclaimed Sounds of China program has performed several successful concerts with Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Chicago, Denver and other cities in the U.S. It has been hailed for increasing the appreciation and understanding of both traditional Chinese folk music and Chinese culture.
Accompanying the concert will be a Hebei Folk Arts and Craft exhibit that will take place in the Glass Lobby of the Chan Centre from 6-9pm.
