Join the UBC Choirs and Vancouver Brass Orchestra in a performance of John Rutter’s festive Gloria for choir, brass, percussion and organ. This joint production is the perfect way to start the holiday season, with a choir of 160 and Vancouver’s top brass musicians! The concert also features seasonal favourites that the whole family will enjoy, including Lauridsen’s luminescent O Magnum Mysterium, William Berry’s reimagined Nutcracker Suite, and Wilberg’s jubilant Joy to the World.
University Singers is the premier choral ensemble in the UBC School of Music. This 32-voice select ensemble performs the most advanced and exciting music written for chamber choir spanning the Renaissance to the modern day. The ensemble also performs major works with orchestra each season, including such works as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Requiem, and more. The ensemble has won several awards, including the CBC National Choral Competition, and the BBC International Choral Competition, and is an active touring ensemble including local, North American, and international destinations. The University Singers won first place among university choirs in the 2015 National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs.
Choral Union is UBC’s largest choral ensemble, boasting over 120 singers. Choral Union performs a diverse range of choral music from modern compositions to masterworks for chorus and orchestra by Mozart, Brahms, Mahler, Orff, Verdi and more. This ensemble is comprised of both music majors and non-music majors. The ensemble gave their Carnegie Hall debut in 2015.
Vancouver Brass Orchestra is a professional large brass ensemble collective in Vancouver, comprised of Vancouver’s top brass-playing professionals. We exist to foster community among local musicians, and our desire is to raise the profile of Vancouver’s brass world, bringing attention to the high quality performers we have in our region. We aim to engage our audience community with entertaining and provoking programs. As many of us are also active educators, VBO is also committed to engaging the not-yet-professional musician, and we regularly have high-performing students involved in our programs, providing a training ground that will complement their experience during their coursework.
