Canada Suite Gala Concert – Winter Music II: Tang

Violinist, composer, conductor Kangnian Tang was formerly a member of the Shanghai Musicians Association and currently a member of the COCAN in Canada. At the age of five, he already performed Mozart’s fifth violin concerto. He graduated from Wuhan Music Conservatory, specializing in violin music. He was selected as a preparatory student for further studies in the U.S.S.R.

Before coming to Canada, he worked in the string section of Shanghai Opera as first violin, composer and conductor. He orchestrated a large number of Chinese folksongs and composed a 5-act light opera Life is Hope and a 6-act comic opera The Marriage of Three Daughters for touring. During this period of time, he also wrote several orchestral works for the violin and the trumpet, including the violin pieces, Thinking of Beijing and In a Mystic Place.
