Spotlight on Silkroad Ensemble: Home Within

Silkroad Ensemble’s Home Within is an emotional accounting of home in a time of conflict. An audio-visual performance conceived by Syrian composer and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and Syrian-Armenian visual artist Kevork Mourad, this impressionistic reflection on loss and longing seeks to establish sustained urgency and continued hope for the artists’ homeland.

The digital performance premieres online on Friday April 23, 2021 at 7pm PST with a virtual watch party. Stay tuned following the premiere for a livestreamed conversation with the artists, moderated by Chan Centre director Pat Carrabré.

A RECENT INTERVIEW WITH AZMEH

"This is a project that is inspired by the Syrian tragedy, but from the lens that is a human tragedy before it's just Syrian tragedy. I think the tragedy belongs to everybody and in this project, we're trying to, not recreate the story... but trying to document our emotions of what [has] happened."
